On Saturday, March 27, 2010 we went to Plymouth Meeting, PA to see the band Allstar Weekend perform in concert. Donna’s cousin, Zach Porter, is the lead singer of the band. Last year they were contenders on Radio Disney’s Next Big Thing, competition and they signed with Hollywood Records. Since the competition they have performed on Disney Cruise Line’s, The Wonder and have been riding a wild ride of concerts and special appearances, studio recording sessions, elaborate music videos, and red carpet movie premiers. Their single “Journey to the End of My Life” made the Radio Disney Top 30 Countdown for 15 consecutive weeks in 2009, and the band’s latest single, “A Different Side of Me,” is on Radio Disney Jams 12 and the video for this song is on the Disney Channel. On youtube this video received over 217,747 views in its first month alone. The song is also featured in Miley Cyrus’s latest movie "The Last Song." In concert, Allstar Weekend has shared the stage with performers like Justin Bieber, Selena Gomez and Savanna. Allstar Weekend is featured on the new Disney Mania 7 cd with their cover of "I Just Can’t Wait to be King", from Disney’s The Lion King, and they are on a cross-country tour with Emily Osment from the Disney Channel series, Hanna Montana Show. This cross-country, "Experience the Magic," tour is sponsored by Disney Parks and Verizon.
The Band is composed of Zach: Vocals, Guitar; Nathan: Guitar, Vocals; Cameron: Bass; and Michael: Drums and for this tour they are joined by Dillon on Keyboard. They write their own great pop songs with Zach and Nathan doing most of the writing (and Michael and Cameron providing input). Zach was raised on a steady diet of Bruce Springsteen and Elton John, artists he says inspire him. With the release of the Disney Mania 7 cd they have now recorded a song written by Elton John and Tim Rice.
Zach and Cameron have been friends since middle school, but the Allstar Weekend didn’t form until Nathan met Zach later in high school. Though a year apart, they started a string of garage bands together. Not long after, Cameron and then Michael joined the band. They have been described as a mix between the Jonas Brothers and Blink 182 and are set to go very far.
Look for Allstar Weekend’s debut album coming out on June 22. They may be coming to a city near you but you can catch them now on Youtube.
Special thanks to Stefanie Reines and Linda Miller.
